Plant Know-How: Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey'

Ficus audrey close
You may have noticed  Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey' gaining more popularity recently, with some people calling it the new Fiddle-Leaf Fig. We're not sure if  Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey' is the new Fiddle-Leaf Fig, but we do know it's become one of our favorites and looks striking in any home! Ficus benghalensis is native to India, where it's the national tree. In its natural habitat you can see giant specimens up to 100' tall with canopies that can spread over acres of land. In cultivation  Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey' wont grow this large, but it can reach up to 10' tall in your home! Like all Ficus,  Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey' can be a bit finicky and has some specific care to keep it happy. We think its well worth the time and effort though, and a well kept specimen makes for a beautiful statement plant.

Light: Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey', like most Ficus, requires bright indirect light to be its happiest. It may grow in medium indirect light but it will grow at a much slower rate.

Water: Allow your Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey' to go almost completely dry in-between watering. Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey' can be sensitive to soil staying too moist for too long, if you find your plant is dropping a lot of leaves this may be the reason.

Did you know? In the wild Ficus benghalensis grows large aerial roots. Once these aerial roots grow long enough and reach the ground they will root themselves and turn into woody trunks.

Want to bring home one of these striking trees? We have Ficus benghalensis 'Audrey' available in-store!
