You may have seen this patterned plant before in your local hardware store and been intrigued by it. Aeschynanthus longicaulis is not the most common of houseplants and because of this its care is sometimes misunderstood. In the wild Aeschynathus longicaulis grows as an epiphyte. Instead of growing in the ground it sets its roots along the bark of trees. Knowing the climate and habitat your plant comes from can help to inform your care of it. To help you even more we've compiled some care tips to make the care of your Aeschynanthus longicaulis as easy as possible!

Light: Aeschynanthus longicaulis will do best grown in bright, indirect light. They can be grown in medium indirect light but they will not flower. Be mindful that the amount of light your plant gets will dictate how frequently it will need to be watered.

Water: Your Aeschynanthus longicaulis does not like to get too dry. Water when about 1-2" of the soil has gone dry. This is a plant that will benefit from added humidity. They will do well next to a humidifier, with a pebble tray underneath of the pot, or in a very well lit bathroom. Aeschynanthus longicaulis is native to Thailand and Malaysia, where it grows in warm, humid rainforests. Trying to mimic their natural habitat will help to ensure you're creating the right environment for your plant to thrive!

Did you know? The genera Aeschynanthus is commonly known as Lipstick Plants because of their bright red, tubular flowers. Aeschynanthus longicaulis has a slightly different flower from some of its relatives. Instead of a red tubular flower, Aeschynanthus longicaulis has a more fluted, orange flower. It's very striking!
