Plant Know-How: Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus'

scindapsus close
This beautiful silvery plant is Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus'! You may know this plant as its common name, Satin Pothos, which is a bit of a misnomer as it's not a Pothos at all. While it may not be a Pothos, Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' is in the same family as Pothos and does share a lot of its same needs and ease of care, which makes it a great plant for beginners. Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' is usually grown as a hanging plant in our homes, but in the wild it has a unique and interesting way of growing. Instead of growing as a trailing vine Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' grows as a shingling plant, meaning its leaves grow flat against the bark of trees. If you wanted to try and recreate this unique growth habit in your home give your Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' a moss pole to grow up! If you want to add this sparkly plant into your home we have all of the care info here that you'll need!

CARE TIPS:

Light: Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' grows best in medium to bright indirect light. Plants grown in bright indirect light will generally grow faster than those grown in lower light.

Water: Water your Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' when the top 2" of soil has gone dry. The leaves on Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' will begin to curl inwards when it wants a drink. This is a great plant for beginners who might not be used to the signs of a thirsty plant.

Did you know? The sparkly effect that Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' leaves have is actually created by a type of variegation! This type of variegation is called Blister Variegation or Reflective Variegation. It's caused by tiny air pockets between the layers in the plant tissue. These air pockets reflect light and give the plant its silvery or sparkly appearance!
