About Us

Some people find plants through gardening books or fancy workshops. I found mine in a grocery store checkout line, impulse-buying a $4 pothos I had absolutely no idea how to care for.

It didn’t survive. Neither did the next three. But somewhere between the fourth and fifth attempt, something clicked, and I started actually understanding what plants need instead of just hoping for the best. My name is Waverly Sinclair, and that slow, stubborn learning curve is exactly what led me to running this site today.

This place has been around since 2016. It was originally built by Danae Horst as part of Folia Collective, a plant shop and community that helped thousands of people bring plants into their homes and actually keep them alive. The foundation she created was genuine and thoughtful, and her book Houseplants For All still holds up as one of the best beginner plant books out there.

I took over in 2026.

Not to change what this place was, but to keep building on it. More guides. More honest answers. More of the stuff you’re actually searching for at 1am when your jade plant starts dropping leaves for no apparent reason.

Whether you’re trying to grow tomatoes in containers for the first time, figure out what’s eating your houseplants, or just find something green that’ll survive your north-facing window, I want this site to be the one that actually helps.

No fluff. No overcomplicating things. Just real answers from someone who got it wrong plenty of times before she got it right.

Welcome. Grab a pot. Let’s grow something.

The Folks Behind the Foliage

Every article on this site is written by someone who actually grows, experiments, and gets their hands dirty.

Waverly Sinclair · Houseplants Started with a grocery store pothos and zero clue. Now writes every houseplant guide on this site from an apartment that’s basically a greenhouse.

Beckett Calloway · Vegetables Has been growing food since he was old enough to hold a watering can. Ask him about tomatoes and clear your schedule.

Ellory Vance · Plant Care The person you want when something’s going wrong and you can’t figure out why. Send her a photo of a sad leaf and she’ll diagnose it before you finish Googling.

Thatcher Hollis · Pest Control Our bug person. Fungus gnats, aphids, mystery critters on your monstera, he figures out what it is and how to get rid of it without harsh chemicals.

Sutton Merrifield · Got hooked on outdoor gardening after marigolds accidentally saved her tomato crop one summer. Now writes about companion planting, seasonal growing, and everything that happens outside the front door. Has two rescue dogs who treat her garden beds like personal digging projects.

Rennick Aldaine · Garden Design Makes outdoor spaces look good on any budget. Also the guy who will passionately try to convince you to rip out your lawn.

Marlowe Kinney · Home Decor Believes every room needs at least one plant, probably three. Has rearranged her Brooklyn living room more times than anyone should admit.
