Cachepot 101
To pot or not to pot?
Did you know potting a plant in a vessel without a drainage hole can be bad for its health? Not sure how to handle pots without holes? Use them as cachepots! Cachepot is just a fancy way to describe placing a grower pot inside a decorative pot and is an easy way to keep plants healthy, and looking stylish.
A few tips to ensure success with cachepots:
- Remove the grower pot when it's time to water, allow water to drain through until drips stop, then return to the decorative pot.
- If a decorative pot is too deep, use pebbles, plastic lids, or even styrofoam packaging to boost the plant up until it sits at the right level.
- Got a grower pot that gets stuck in the decorative pot? Make little loops out of packing tape and secure to the sides of the grower pot to get a better grip.
- Be sure to empty any water that may collect in the bottom of decorative pots - standing water is prime real estate for fungus gnats to hatch out.
