Plant Know-How: Asplenium nidus 'Campio'

Asplenium nidus wide
You might recognize this Bird's Nest Fern from your mother's or grandmother's house. Asplenium nidus was a popular houseplant in the 70s where it wouldn't be uncommon to see one swinging from a macrame plant hanger. While there are a variety of cultivars of Asplenium nidus, we think our favorite might be Asplenium nidus 'Campio'. With a distinctly ruffled, almost feather-like leaf Asplenium nidus 'Campio' certainly stands out among its peers. This relatively easy going fern will bring a little of the jungle to any part of your home. Wether you're thinking of bringing home on of these unique ferns or have one in your life already we've compiled some tips to keep yours happy and lush!

CARE TIPS:

Light: Asplenium nidus 'Campio' does best in medium to bright indirect light. Be sure to shield the leaves from any direct sun as they will burn.

Water: Never allow your Asplenium nidus 'Campio' to dry out completely. While it is an easier fern, it is still a fern and the soil should be kept moist but not soggy at all times. Added humidity will also help to keep your leaves looking lush and prevent any crispy tips. You can achieve higher humidity by providing a humidifier, placing your plant in a well light bathroom, or adding a pebble tray.

Did you know? In the wild Asplenium grow on the branches of trees. They collect debris and other detritus within the cup-like center of their leaves. This eventually decomposes and fertilizes the plant!
