Plant Know-How: Epipremnum aureum 'Jade'

You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't recognize this plant. This is Epipremnum aureum 'Jade', the widely popular and commonly kept Green Pothos. For many people this was their gateway plant into plant parenthood. It's very easy to keep and tolerant of a wide range of conditions, and roots readily so it's perfect for sharing! It's the ideal beginner plant. Epipremnum aureum 'Jade' is an Aroid, like many of our tropical leafy friends. It's native to French Polynesia, but because it's such a hardy plant it's become an invasive pest in many tropical places! This may be a hardy and easy going plant, but that doesn't mean it'll survive in a windowless bathroom. Epipremnum aureum 'Jade', like all living plants, requires light and water to survive. While it does require some of your time and attention Epipremnum aureum 'Jade' isn't a needy plant at all!

CARE TIPS:

Light: Epipremnum aureum 'Jade' does best in bright indirect light, but can be grown in medium to even lower medium indirect light. If you're growing your Epipremnum aureum 'Jade' in a lower light setting be sure to check that the soil is dry before you water to keep your plant from developing root rot.

Water: Water your Epipremnum aureum 'Jade' when about 1-2" is dry. Another reason why Epipremnum aureum 'Jade' is great for beginners is that the leaves will look noticeably droopy when your plant is thirsty.

Did you know? In the wild, like many other Aroids, Epipremnum aureum 'Jade' climbs up the trunks of trees. When grown this way Epipremnum aureum 'Jade' will develop much larger, mature leaves and will eventually develop split leaves similar to a Monstera!
