Plant Know-How: Peperomia obtusifolia

Peperomia obtusifolia wide
Peperomia obtusifolia might be our favorite plant for plant newbies. They're not only a great introduction into plants, but also into the Peperomia genius if you're curious and want to dip your toe in! Like most Peperomia, Peperomia obtusifolia is naturally an epiphyte that grows scrabbling along other surfaces in the wild. What sets it apart from some of its Peperomia family, and what makes it an easy starter plant, is its thick succulent leaves. These leaves help Peperomia obtusifolia to hold onto water for longer and make it a little bit hardier than some other Peperomia. While this may be an easier plant that most that certainly does not make it indestructible! Peperomia obtusifolia has needs like all other plants, and we've got all the tips you'll need here to best care for your plant!

CARE TIPS:

Light: Peperomia obtusifolia does best in medium to indirect bright light. All green varieties may be able to tolerate lower light, while variegated varieties will need higher light to maintain their color.

Water: Allow your Peperomia obtusifolia to go nearly dry before watering. The light that you're growing your plant in will affect how often you water. If your plant is growing in lower light you will need to water less frequently and if it is in higher light it will need to be watered more frequently. Peperomia obtusifolia, and most Peperomia, do best when grown in a well draining mix. If you're not ready to mix your own soil we have our own Folia Favorite Potting Mix that is a great choice for Peperomia!

Did you know? Your Peperomia obtusifolia may grow strange, tentacle like growths. These are actually its flowers! Each flower spike contains many tiny, almost unnoticeable flowers.
