Plant Know-How: Philodendron 'Birkin'

It wasn't long ago that Philodendron 'Birkin' was the hottest plant around. It's only recently that this striking plant has become more common in cultivation.  Thought to be a sport of Philodendron 'Rojo Congo', this stripy plant shares a lot of similarities to its parentage. Philodendron 'Birkin' is a self heading Philodendron hybrid, meaning it does not vine and instead supports itself as it grows. It may start out small but given time Philodendron 'Birkin' can grow up to 3' tall and 3' wide. Philodendron 'Birkin' may never become a towering tree but you'll definitely want to plan ahead for your mature plant! Much like its relative Philodendron 'Rojo Congo', 'Birkin' is an easy going plant well suited for beginners. It does have some slightly specialized care however, so we've compiled everything you need to know to keep your Philodendron 'Birkin' thriving!

CARE TIPS:

Light: Philodendron 'Birkin' does best in bright, indirect light. It can be grown in medium indirect light but it may lose some of it's pattern and can revert.

Water: Water your plant when it's gone almost completely dry. Be sure to deeply water your plant whenever you water!

Did you know? Philodendron 'Birkin' have been known to grow unusual leaves with red variegation. This might be because it's thought to be a sport of Philodendron 'Rojo Congo'!
