Plant Know-How: Syngonium podophyllum

Syngonium close
Syngonium podophyllum is a wonderfully easy going houseplant. A member of the Aroid family, Syngonium podophyllum is related to other houseplant favorites such as Monstera, Epipremnum and Scindapsus. This interesting Aroid grows in a variety of different ways. Often grown as a small, bushy plant, as it begins to grow it sends out vines much like Epipremnum. While Syngonium podophyllum can grow as a beautiful trailing plant, in the wild this plant naturally grows up trees and develops deeply lobed leaves as it matures. Even though the mature form of Syngonium podophyllum can be difficult to achieve in your home that certainly doesn't make it a difficult plant. Even though it's an easy plant to keep we've got some tips to keep yours looking beautiful!

CARE TIPS:

Light: Syngonium podophyllum does best in medium to bright indirect light. Cultivars such as Pink Allusion will need to be kept in bright indirect light to maintain its dramatic pink color.

Water: Water your Syngonium when about half of the soil has gone dry. If your Syngonium is sitting in a saucer make sure to empty any excess water after watering to prevent root rot.

Did you know? If you want your Syngonium podophyllum to produce mature leaves in your home give it a moss pole to climb. Mimicking its natural habitat will help it to produce its mature, deeply lobed leaves!
