Meet the Maker: Nightshift Ceramics

Nightshift Ceramics owner Robyn

Meet Robyn Molnar, the maker and owner behind Nightshift Ceramics.

Inspired by her childhood and 80's nostalgia, Robyn creates colorful ceramics in the form of planters and incense holders. Her ceramics are available to shop in a variety of designs and sizes both online and in store.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PRACTICING YOUR CRAFT?

I’ve been making ceramics for about 6 years now.

WHAT DREW YOU TO YOUR MEDIUM ORIGINALLY?

The first ceramics class I took was a weekend jewelry making workshop and it just seemed like it would be fun! I realized I really loved working with clay and immediately signed up for a wheel throwing class and kept going from there.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU MOST & HOW IS THAT REFLECTED IN YOUR WORK?

I’ve been told my work looks very ‘80s’ and I can see it! I am definitely inspired by the era I grew up in and I have so much nostalgia and love for the 70s + 80s. I love to look at the shapes and colours of objects from the past for inspiration.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ITEM TO MAKE? WHY IS IT YOUR FAVORITE?

I don’t really have a favourite item, but my favourite part of the process is glazing. I love taking a shape from a blank canvas to something colourful and fun and with its own personality.

WHAT DO YOU WISH CUSTOMERS UNDERSTOOD BETTER ABOUT HANDMADE ITEMS?

Honestly, most customers are so nice and understanding about handmade items. But if I was going to share about pottery specifically, I would say there are so many steps to completing any piece. And there is a lot of waiting in between for the clay to be ready to work with - you can’t really rush it!
