Meet The Maker: Plant Man P
Meet Jon & Jerrilyn, the husband and wife duo behind the houseplant inspired streetwear line, Plant Man P. Their limited edition designs, described as "where houseplants meet streetwear", range from t-shirts, to hoodies, hats, tote bags, and even potting tarps & gardening aprons.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PRACTICING YOUR ART/CRAFT OR MAKING YOUR PRODUCT?
I’ve been making clothes on and off for about 11 years but we’ve been making Plant Man P clothing for 3 years.
WHAT DREW YOU TO YOUR MEDIUM OR PRODUCT ORIGINALLY?
Jerrilyn and I started purchasing plants in 2019 simply to get some color and life into our greyscale apartment at the time. Before we knew it, one plant turned into roughly 100 plants in our one bedroom apartment.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU MOST & HOW IS THAT REFLECTED IN YOUR WORK?
What inspires me is being able to be in the position to help my family. I also love adding wellness quotes and slogans onto our clothing as a little reminder not only for the person wearing it but also the person seeing our clothing on our supporters.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ITEM TO MAKE? WHY IS IT YOUR FAVORITE?
I love when I’m able to come up with a good universal hat design. Hats can be worn everyday. Everything else… not so much.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PLANT (OR ONE OF YOUR FAVORITES)?
My favorite plant has to be the Philodendron Selloum. I love seeing them around the city and no matter the environment they are in, they are thriving. Plants and humans are very similar and that’s just one of the many things we can take away from plants. Don’t let your environment stunt your growth.
