Sad News About Folia
Dear customers, followers, and friends of Folia,
With a heavy heart, I have to share that we have made the difficult decision to close our store. While our quick pivot to pickup & delivery during the early pandemic and all of your support enabled us to come out of the lockdown days stronger than ever, the 2 years that followed have been some of our hardest ones yet and we just can't make it work any longer. We've explored many options and have taken on debt over the last year in hopes of staying afloat until things got better, but at this point, closing is the only viable option.
A few important things to know as we begin this process:
- We don't yet know exactly when we will be closing. Because we still have time left on our lease, we have to find a new tenant to take over our space before we can close. While we make that search, you may notice some changes at the shop (which is why we're announcing this before we have an end date).
- We will continue stocking the shop with fresh, healthy, hand-selected plants on a weekly basis. We will also continue stocking our best selling items as long as possible. We will be reducing inventory and phasing out some categories over the next few months. We've added a 'Last Chance' collection to our website so you can keep tabs on any items you'd like to be sure to snag before they're gone for good.
- We won't be holding a big liquidation sale. In order to pay off the debt we've taken on in hopes of riding out the challenges we've encountered over the last few years, we need to sell products at normal prices (which we don't overly inflate to begin with). We truly appreciate your help in supporting us in this endeavor.
- Our design services will continue as usual and won't be affected by these changes.
- Gift cards and Plant Club rewards can be used in-store or online as usual.
- Because we need to cut expenses, I've had to make the heartbreaking decision to reduce our staffing. I have given my amazing team as much time as I could to prepare for this, and will support them however I can as they transition into other jobs, etc. You will see less of them in the coming months, and more of myself and my husband, Bill. We will do our very best to continue to uphold the high customer service standard we have held ourselves to all along.
Something I've always been so grateful for in this journey of Folia is the amazing community we're honored to be a part of. I treasure the support you've all shown us, and the friendships we've made with customers, followers, and other small businesses along the way. Because you always have before, I anticipate you may ask "how can we help?", so here are some ways we could use your help:
- Shop with us. Our Eagle Rock shop will remain open regular hours for as long as we're able, and our online store will continue running as usual for shipped and store pick-up orders. Remember that we ship many of our plants nationwide, and almost everything else that we carry worldwide.
- Spread the word about our space being available for rent. Full details can be found here. We will also share an Instagram post later this week that will be easy to share on your own Instagram stories.
- Want to support but you're out of room for plants? We so appreciate those that want to help us in this time, so we added a 'tip jar' where you can leave a contribution in any amount.
- Do you, or does someone you know have a pop-up or makers-market based business? We are looking for makers and brands interested in doing month-long (or longer) pop-ups in our space! We will be sharing an Instagram post later this week with details about that and would be grateful if you shared it on your own Instagram stories.
This is definitely one of the more challenging things I've ever had to write, and I'm sure I'm forgetting things I should share here so be sure to keep an eye out for emails and Instagram posts in the coming weeks with updates, and feel free to reach out if you have questions. In the meantime just know that even though this isn't the Folia ending I hoped for, I wouldn't trade the last 8 years for anything, and I will be forever grateful for each and every one of you and all the love and support you've shown this little plant shop of mine. Truly. Thank you times a million.
xo,
Danae
